1 November 2007 MP ON THE AIRWAVES David Taylor MP has visited the District’s newest radio station – Ashby Radio – at their new premises in Huntingdon House on Market Street, Ashby de la Zouch. Ashby Radio has been established by a team of experienced broadcasters to give Ashby De La Zouch and the surrounding areas a truly local radio station. It gives the area a voice to promote local businesses, local charities and local not for profit organisations. Ashby Radio broadcasted for the very first time between Saturday the 3rd March and Friday 30th March 2007. Following a “fantastic response” from local listeners and businesses, the station resumed broadcasting from new premises and on a new frequency from the 27th October. Presenter Alister Wheeldon put questions to David on the air on a host of issues including illegal trespass by travellers; East Midlands Airport and the environment; the loss of village facilities and the pressures for expansion of Ashby and Coalville. David also turned DJ by selecting 3 of his favourite records - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack; Lean On Me by Bill Withers and Heart of Glass by Blondie. Alister Wheeldon said “Ashby Radio has such a successful time in March that we are back for a second time with yet another 28 days of local community fun ! We are also anticipating the announcement from Ofcom of the chance to get Ashby Radio on the air full time when this area is allowed to apply for a 5ry community licence. “I’m delighted that David was able to take part in the show. It was an excellent opportunity for local people to hear for themselves how David represents the area at Westminster; specific issues that he has been involved in and how he is fighting their corner and their interests.” For further information on Ashby Radio, please call them on 01530 411826 |
