Andrew Bridgen, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for North West Leicestershire, says local radio and newspapers are vital to the district, and he has given his backing to Ashby Radio’s bid for a permanent broadcasting license.

He was speaking after visiting Ashby Radio's new studio in Huntingdon House on Market Street, Ashby de la Zouch, where he spent an hour being interviewed by mid morning presenter Alister Wheeldon.

During the interview, Andrew covered topics including Inheritance Tax, his battle to save local Post Offices, developments at East Midlands Airport, recycling in the district and the Conservatives’ new eco reusable bag.

Andrew said: “As a Conservative, I believe in localism, which is that the decisions that affect people and the services delivered to them should be made as close to the people as possible. Community radio and local newspapers are a perfect example of this. I would like to wish Ashby Radio the best of luck in being granted a permanent license.”

Alister Wheeldon said: “Ashby Radio is proud to be the community radio station for Ashby. As we say, it’s your community, your voice, your radio station, so we welcome opinions from all parties who wish to promote our town, and we were glad to hear of Andrew Bridgen’s plans for Ashby should he become North West Leicestershire's next Member of Parliament.”

Andrew revealed his three favourite songs on air - Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird, Dire Straits’ Romeo and Juliet and The Kaiser Chiefs’ Ruby.
